MORINAGA & CO., LTD. (TYO 2201) today announced the construction of a new research center to be opened in October 2021 at the Morinaga Tsurumi Factory site. The company already has a research center at the factory site (Tsurumi-ku, Yokohama City), which conducts fundamental research as well as R&D centered on confectionery, foodstuffs, and ice cream product development; food processing technology; mass production technology; and quality assurance. The new research center to be built at the same factory site, will have a larger total floor space (approximately 1.5 times as large), and will help to further enhance the company’s R&D activities.

The new research center will function as a core R&D base responsible for value creation at Morinaga. The center will bring together and develop the company’s knowledge and technologies relating to a broad category of food products. The use of tests pilot plants* at the center will enable the company to rapidly advance the development of new products for the domestic and global markets and enhance the quality and value of existing products. Furthermore, in order to promote external collaboration, the company will create an open research environment at the center in order to facilitate the proactive incorporation of external knowledge.

The center will also coordinate with the neighboring Morinaga Angel Museum “Morium”, with the aim of deepening dialog with customers and cooperating on the creation of new value.

The company will use this open and highly creative research center as a base from which to contribute to the realization of abundant, safe eating choices and the promotion of health among the people of the world.
* Plants that are functionally almost the same as commercial plants, and that are positioned between experimental and commercial plants.
