With the aim of building a low carbon, sustainable society to help prevent global warming, Morinaga has adopted an eco-friendly approach in every aspect of its corporate activities. We contribute to building a society that coexists with nature through the conservation of biodiversity.
Morinaga’s Oyama factory was the first in the confectionery industry to be ISO 14001–certified in 1998. (ISO 14001 is the international standard for environmental management systems.)
Environmental Efforts
Reducing the Across the Board Environmental Impact of Our Products
- Morinaga’s approach to product development is based on our proprietary evaluation indicator called the Morinaga Eco Index. It emphasizes simple packaging, increased use of recycled paper, easy recycling, and environmentally conscious disposal.
The Universal Design is one of the fruits of our efforts. It is a design which in corporates a semicircular perforation line on individual paper packaging to make folding easier and reduce waste volume. Instructions for folding are illustrated on the packaging.
Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Morinaga promotes energy-saving programs with the “Cool biz/Warm biz” clothing styles and No Overtime Day throughout its organization. We also practice carbon management through the visualization of energy use, and work to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases, such as CO2, to help prevent global warming.
Conservation, Waste Reduction, and Recycling
We are making an effort to reduce waste at all factories. Waste materials are properly sorted by type. Food waste is recycled into animal feed and fertilizer. We further promote waste recycling through methanation.
Controlling and Reducing Environmental Pollutants
Morinaga is helping in the reduction of NOX and CO2 loads on the environment by converting all boilers fuels used by our factories to city gas. Furthermore, all vehicles used on the factory premises are required to observe a no idling policy.
Contributing to Society by Raising Environmental Awareness and Preserving Biodiversity
Morinaga is actively promoting the conservation of biodiversity. We are also active in social service activities to raise the awareness of all employees through environmental education.
